Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras dies in auto accident

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras, 22, has died in a car accident in his native Dominican Republic, police confirmed Sunday.
Taveras' girlfriend also died in the accident, Bryan Mejia, Taveras' manager, told reporters.
This season was Taveras' first with the Cardinals, and he finished the season as a part-time outfielder, USA Today reports. John Mozeliak, general manager of the Cardinals, expressed his condolences to Taveras' family, and said once the team received more information, a formal announcement would be made.
