A person who recently returned to the U.S. from West Africa has been admitted to Bellevue Hospital in New York City after exhibiting symptoms associated with the Ebola virus. The patient has been isolated for testing, and officials are already working to identify anyone who came in contact with the patient in the States.
That said, the Health Department was quick to note that the symptoms — fever and gastrointestinal stress — can be caused by far more common ailments like the flu. In a statement it added that "the chances of the average New Yorker contracting Ebola are extremely slim."
