This Sharknado campaign spot is the most perplexing ad of the 2014 midterms

Sharknado memes may be a bit dated, but that hasn't stopped the Michigan GOP from using the hilariously awful sci-fi movie as the hook for the most bizarre campaign ad of this election cycle.
First flagged by Bloomberg's Dave Weigel, the ad features a cartoonish Rep. Gary Peters (D), who is running to fill an open Senate seat, standing on a beach. "Clouds are gathering," a narrator intones, before a bunch of metaphorical sharks fall from the sky and belch fat stacks of cash.
It will likely take a campaign catastrophe of Sharknado proportions to stop Peters. The latest New York Times forecast gives him a 91 percent chance of winning, and recent polls have shown him consistently pushing a double-digit lead.
