Former Saturday Night Live cast member Jan Hooks has died at age 57, a representative told NBC News. The news was first reported by TMZ, whose sources said that Hooks "had been battling a serious illness."

Hooks was a cast member on SNL from 1986 to 1991, then had later roles on shows including Designing Women, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and 30 Rock.

Here she is in one of her classic sketches, as Brenda the waitress in a small-town diner, having a melodramatic and innuendo-filled confrontation with a customer played by Alec Baldwin. --Eric Kleefeld
