Rick Santorum is testing the waters for another White House bid, according to Politico, which notes that despite a presumably stronger field in 2016, Santorum's "early moves could still put him in a better position in the next go-round."

"My head is very wrapped around the idea of getting things in line to move forward," Santorum tells Politico's Anna Palmer.

Santorum surged late in the 2012 campaign, but a lack of funding and a comparatively weak team ultimately contributed to his bid faltering down the stretch. So this time around, Santorum is already courting big donors and "beginning the process now sort of checking temperatures of folks."

Though polls this far out from the primaries are largely meaningless, Santorum typically falls at the very back of the pack.
