Canadian newspaper caption calls black NHL player 'dark guy in the middle'

Two Canadian newspapers are under fire for running a caption that described a black NHL player as the "dark guy in the middle."

The Vancouver Sun and The Province both ran the same photo of the Canucks' Jordan Subban, who is black, surrounded by teammates during a preseason game Tuesday. The caption read, in part: "Vancouver Canucks celebrate goal by Jordan Subban (dark guy in the middle) against San Jose Sharks."

The Sun said that the photographer, not the paper, wrote the caption, but still apologized for not catching the offensive line before publication.
