Craig Ferguson used to drop acid with bandmate Peter Capaldi, the new Doctor Who
Craig Ferguson is leaving his spot as David Letterman's late-night closer to host a game show. On Tuesday night he spoke with Seth Meyers, who plays a similar role for Jimmy Fallon, about doing late-night TV, becoming an American citizen, and hosting the White House Correspondents Dinner. At one point Meyers asked if it's true that Ferguson was once in a band with Peter Capaldi, who just took over as the title character in the long-running British series Doctor Who.
It's true, Ferguson said, citing it as an example of his odd path to late-night TV. "When the rest of the guys were at Emerson, or Harvard, or, you know, doing stuff like that, I was taking acid in the back of a van with the guy who ended up playing the Doctor," Ferguson said, threatening to punch Meyers if he called Capaldi "Doctor Who" instead of "the Doctor." Their band started out as the Bastards From Hell, but ended up as the Dreamboys, he added, explaining, "it was a slightly different move in direction." --Peter Weber
