The man who shot and killed teenager Renisha McBride as she stood on the porch of his Dearborn Heights, Michigan, home was sentenced Wednesday to a minimum of 17 years in prison.
Theodore Wafer was convicted last month of second-degree murder for shooting McBride in the face when she knocked on the door of his home around 4:30 a.m. one morning last November. McBride had been in a car accident and was believed to be seeking help. Wafer, who said he feared the noise was vandals, opened the door, saw a figure, and fired.
Judge Dana M. Hathaway sentenced Wafer to 15 to 30 years in prison for the murder, plus another two for a weapons charge.
