FDA recalls your favorite summer fruits over Listeria scare

The Food and Drug Administration has announced a voluntary recall of some California stone fruits that may have been exposed to the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The packing company Wawona Packing Co. informed retailers including Costco, Trader Joe's, and Walmart to yank peaches, nectarines, plums, and pluots packed between June 1 and July 12.
"The recalled products were shipped directly to retailers and wholesalers who resell the products," the FDA said in a statement. "Because we do not know the locations of the companies that purchased the products from our direct customers, the company is issuing a nationwide recall."
The company said it found a Listeria contamination at one of its packing plants, but has since eradicated the problem. A spokesperson added that they have received no reports of illness related to the effected fruits.
