Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl may return to active duty

Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has completed his counseling at a Texas army hospital and may return to active duty as early as Monday, according to Defense Department officials.

The New York Times reports that Bergdahl will "return to life as a regular Army soldier" after being an outpatient at a San Antonio hospital for roughly three weeks. As he underwent therapy and counseling, Bergdahl was also debriefed about his time as a Taliban prisoner.

Bergdahl will return to the Army North Headquarters at the Fort Sam Houston base, according to officials. The Times also reports that Bergdahl will meet with Major General Kenneth R. Dahl, who is investigating his disappearance from his post in Afghanistan in 2009.

The sergeant was released from Taliban captivity May 31 in a controversial trade for five Taliban detainees. The Taliban held Bergdahl captive for nearly five years after his disappearance.
