Sales of light beer in America are projected to hit a 10-year low in 2015, according to the Shanken News Daily. The reason? Americans are increasingly quaffing "more flavorful alternatives such as imports, specialty craft beers, RTDs [Ready-to-drink spirits] and ciders."
Craft beer is getting the most attention as the Bud-killer here. And indeed, craft beers have nearly doubled their market share in the past five years; the industry enjoyed 20 percent growth from 2012 to 2013 alone.
Still, much of the decline in light beer sales is largely the result of something much simpler: Americans aren't so keen on beer anymore, period. In 1992, beer was America's preferred form of alcohol, holding a 20-point lead over wine; that edge shrank to one percentage point in 2012, according to Gallup.
