Bashar al-Assad wins landslide re-election amid civil war

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has won re-election to a third term with a staggering 88.7 percent of the vote, according to multiple reports. Coming amid a three-year-old civil war marked by the use of chemical weapons by Assad's forces, the outcome was never really in doubt.
