Chelsea Handler is leaving E! in August

After seven years as the host of E!'s late-night talk show Chelsea Lately, Chelsea Handler is scheduled to step down on August 26. The network will mark the occasion with a month of "special guests and special episodes," culminating in an hour-long series finale.

Handler's impending departure is something of a surprise; according to Variety, Handler was originally scheduled to remain with E! until the end of 2014.

"I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years," said Handler in a statement. "I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I'm glad I went."
