Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez has died, according to multiple reports. The Colombian author was 87.
Garcia Marquez was a pioneer of magical realism, blending beautiful prose and fantastical elements in some of the most revered works of literature in the past century. He won the Nobel Prize in 1982, in large part for his opus, One Hundred Years of Solitude, which has sold 50 million copies worldwide.
Years ago, Garcia Marquez summed up his own work best in an interview with The Paris Review, saying, "A novelist can do anything he wants so long as he makes people believe in it."
