Hayat Boumeddiene, the widow of the gunman who last week killed a police officer and then took hostages at a Paris supermarket, escaped to Turkey and then Syria, Turkey's foreign minister said Monday.

Authorities initially believed Boumeddiene was with the gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, during Wednsday's murder of the police officer, and possibly during Friday's hostage situation as well. But Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Boumeddiene actually flew to Istanbul days before the attacks, on Jan. 2, before crossing the border into Syria one week later.
