Sen. Claire McCaskill rules out 2016 gubernatorial bid
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) has ruled out a run for governor in 2016, sparing Democrats from having to defend her seat in the increasingly red state until 2018.
"I will not be running for governor in 2016," McCaskill said Monday in a radio interview. "That’s a firm no."
McCaskill, who unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2004 and was rumored to be eyeing another bid for the state's top job, said she felt she could accomplish more in the Senate than in the governor's mansion. Given that Republicans dominate Missouri's legislature, that's seems like a reasonable assessment.
