Obama in State of the Union: 'Tonight, we turn the page'
President Obama on Tuesday will use his sixth State of the Union address to present a vigorous defense of his economic policies and to offer an optimistic message for the future.
"It has been, and still is, a hard time for many," Obama will say, according to an excerpt of the prepared speech released by the White House. "But tonight, we turn the page."
Obama will also argue in his address that his record has proven "middle-class economics works." The White House hinted over the past week that Obama's address would focus heavily on income inequality and the middle class. In particular, Obama is expected to outline a proposal to finance free community college tuition and tax benefits for the middle class through tax hikes on the welathy and large financial institutions.
