Britain votes to advance world's first 'three-person baby' law

Britain's House of Commons on Tuesday voted in favor of a law that would allow for the artificial creation of babies using DNA from three people. The so-called "three-person baby" law, which still requires a vote in the House of Lords, would make the U.K .the first place to permit the technological practice.

The technique allows for the replacement of defective DNA for would-be parents who suffer from mitochondrial disease. Critics of the practice contend that it could lead to the creation of genetically engineered designer babies.
