Pope Francis will this fall deliver an address to a joint session of Congress, House Speaker John Boehner's office announced Thursday. The visit, scheduled for Sep. 24, will be the first time a sitting pontiff has addressed the legislative body.

"In a time of global upheaval, the Holy Father's message of compassion and human dignity has moved people of all faiths and backgrounds," Boehner said in a statement.
