The cast is set, the location is California, and Season 2 of True Detective is "a totally different story," Vince Vaughn tells Playboy.

Vaughn, who will star in the HBO crime drama as Frank Semyon, credited Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey for their performances in the show's first season, but he added that creator Nic Pizzolatto has crafted an equally engaging followup.

"The thing that's consistent is the richness of the characters and the quality of the material," Vaughn says. "TV is definitely having its moment. It's almost as if we've discovered how exciting it can be to tell story over a longer time frame."
