Ukraine begins to withdraw its heavy weapons

Ukraine on Thursday began removing heavy artillery from the war-ravaged eastern part of the country, a sign that a delicate truce was finally beginning to take hold.

Though Kiev and pro-Russian rebels agreed to a ceasefire that began a week and a half ago, both sides accused the other of continued aggressions. The rebels began withdrawing their heavy weapons earlier this week, but Ukraine delayed its withdrawal, claiming the fighting had not yet ceased.—Jon Terbush
