Atlanta garbageman jailed 30 days for going to work too early
Nobody likes being woken up early by the trash collectors, but is it really a jail-worthy offense? An Atlanta judge and prosecutor apparently think so, as they gave a local garbageman, Kevin McGill, 30 days in jail for picking up trash at 5 a.m. one morning.
This is the second time the prosecutor, Bill Riley, has successfully pursued jail time for overzealous sanitation workers who are out before 7 a.m. He says it's the only effective way to guard residents' sleep.
McGill will serve his sentence over the course of 14 weekends spent in jail, leaving his wife home alone with their two sons.
