The Associated Press on Wednesday filed suit against the State Department in a bid to obtain Hillary Clinton's email records from her time as secretary of state.
"The press is a proxy for the people, and AP will continue its pursuit of vital information that's in the public interest through this action and future open records requests," AP general counsel Karen Kaiser said.
The lawsuit comes one day after Clinton defended her use of a private email account, saying she did so for the "convenience" of using one email account and one device rather than two of each. The State Department said this week it would release Clinton's work emails to the public after an internal review, a process that will take months to complete.
