Between Blended, The Cobbler, and Men, Women, & Children, Adam Sandler has been on a bit of a cold streak lately — but his upcoming Pixels is clearly gunning for the top of the box office. The goofy comedy blockbuster is set in a world where real-life '80s video game characters mount a large-scale alien invasion, requiring Sandler and his games buddies — including Kevin James, Josh Gad, and Peter Dinklage — to take their skills into the real world:
Pixels basically looks like Ghostbusters for gamers (and was probably pitched with that exact phrase) — right down to the use of Donkey Kong and Pac-Man as a pair of giant baddies in the vein of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
Movies based on video games tend to be terrible, but we'll see if Sandler and company can overcome those odds when Pixels hits theaters in July.
