Indiana teenager dies in police custody
A 19-year-old Indiana inmate died in police custody Monday.
The unidentified male was arrested on Sunday night and was booked into the Johnson County Jail on Monday morning for "preliminary charges of reckless possession of paraphernalia," according to The Indianapolis Star.
After the teenager was booked, the jail's nurse recommended he be taken to a hospital, the Star reports. By the official police account, the inmate was able to walk into the van, but when it arrived at Johnson Memorial Hospital, he was unresponsive.

A statement from the Johnson County Sheriff's office said that "life-saving measures were attempted and were unsuccessful." Indiana State Police detectives are investigating the inmate's death.
