Degrassi is getting held back after all. After 14 seasons and hundreds of episodes, the rambling teen soap was finally canceled last Friday, with a series finale set to air in July.
But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the dead Degrassi series will birth a whole new Degrassi series — on Netflix, the established repository for all these half-remembered TV revivals. Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of Degrassi: The Next Class, which will premiere on the streaming service sometime in early 2016.
In a statement, Degrassi's producers said the new series will follow "Generation Z," with a new focus on courting a "post-millennial audience." See, millennials? That's what it's like to feel old.
