BP to pay $18.7 billion settlement for 2010 oil spill

BP has reached an agreement with Gulf Coast states and the federal government to pay a settlement of $18.7 billion in damages and outstanding liabilities for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which is considered to be the worst in U.S. history. The payments will be spaced out across a period of 18 years, and will be given to Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Texas.
