On Tuesday, 20th Century Fox announced that it secured the rights to make a film about the historic Supreme Court same-sex marriage ruling. The movie, which won't be out for at least two years, will likely be centered on Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in the case. Obergefell's lawsuit, which eventually made its way up to the Supreme Court, began when his home state of Ohio refused to list him on his partner's death certificate as his spouse, despite the fact that the couple had been married in the state of Maryland and were together for 21 years. Obergefell sued and, in the happy ending with which we're all familiar, won big for gay rights when the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. "It's a transcendent love story about someone who goes to such a length for love that he ends up changing the world," Producer Wyck Godfrey said.
