Donald Trump doesn't think he owes Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) an apology over his comments Saturday, in which he questioned whether the former POW could be considered a true war hero. Trump spoke to Martha Raddatz on ABC's This Week on Sunday morning:
I'm very disappointed in John McCain because the vets are horribly treated in this country. I'm fighting for the vets. I've done a lot for the vets. And the vets — I've been going around to the campaign trail. They're treated like third-class citizens. He's done nothing to help the vets. And I will tell you, they are living in hell. [This Week]
Trump was referring to notoriously high wait times for veterans seeking medical care in many cities. The billionaire also told Raddatz no one in the audience of his Iowa speech was insulted by his dig at McCain. Well, the Republican National Committee apparently was, among others.
