Why these 40 donors are supporting both Hillary Clinton and a Republican

So far, at least 40 people have donated to both Hillary Clinton and one of her possible Republican rivals this election cycle. But as Time reports, their reasons for doing so vary widely.
For instance, donor Patricia Lizarraga gave $500 each to Clinton and Republican Carly Fiorina, the only two women running as major party candidates. "If there were a third [woman] in the fray," Lizarraga says, "I would support her as well." Writer Mayhill Fowler, meanwhile, abhors "the hyper-partisanship of our culture" and donates to both sides in every presidential contest — though the $2,700 she gave to Clinton dwarfs her $250 to Jeb Bush.
And as for billionaire John Catsimatidis, he donated to personal friends Clinton and Bush because he'd be happy to see either in the White House. "If Hillary Clinton was the nominee in the Democratic Party and Jeb Bush was the nominee in the Republican Party," says Catsimatidis, "I would go to sleep early on election night because regardless of who got elected our country would be in good shape."
