Gunman confirmed dead in Tennessee movie-theater shooting

A shooter at a Tennessee movie theater near Nashville has been confirmed dead by local police, The Tennessean reports. Shots were fired at the Carmike Hickory 8 Cinemas in Antioch around 1:13 p.m. by a hatchet-wielding gunman. The attacker also left two backpacks in the theater, which are being searched by the police. One man was reportedly injured by the hatchet; two others were treated for exposure to pepper spray inside the theater.

The attack comes less than a month after a shooter killed two and injured eight before turning the gun on himself during a screening of Trainwreck in a theater in Lafayette, Louisiana.
