Donald Trump's status as frontrunner in the Republican presidential race might be in jeopardy, a New York Times/CBS News poll found. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is now running nearly even with Trump — he has 23 percent support compared to Trump's 27 percent, a point difference that's within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus six percentage points.

Trump's gains also appear to be slowing while Carson's soar: Since the poll was last taken, Carson's support has risen by 17 points, from 6 percent to 23 percent. Trump only gained three points.
