Nicki Minaj is returning to television, and this time she won't have to fight for screen time like she did as a judge on American Idol. The singer and rapper announced Tuesday that she will executive produce and appear in an ABC Family series based on her life. The scripted comedy series will be set in the 1990s and detail Minaj's immigration from Trinidad to New York, as well as her eventual rise to fame.
"Nicki Minaj is an international superstar, and yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is," ABC Family Executive Vice President Karey Burke said in a statement. Shooting is set to start in Queens, New York this winter.
