Ivanka Trump recalls her parents as 'quite strict and yet detached'

Ivanka Trump is a different type of parent than her father Donald Trump. Whereas Ivanka is involved in each and every aspect of her two — soon to be three — children's lives, Donald was — as she puts it — a little bit more hands off. Although her parents were definitely "quite strict," Politico reports that she also remembers them as being "detached."
He would be the type of parent who would realize after the fact, I probably shouldn’t have been going to a Rambo movie when I was 7. That's not the type of stuff he cared about. But what he cared about was respect. You would never hear us yelling at our parents or using a tone that was inappropriate or disrespectful. Even a tone. Forget the words that sometimes come out of kids’ mouths. [Ivanka Trump, Politico]
Ivanka seems to have taken those rules to heart. She is "the softer, more refined side to the Trump brand and an antidote to [Donald's] abrasiveness," Politico notes, and she avoids bragging and spectacle just as much as her father relishes in it. When she gives a public statement, she is always "extremely careful." And, unlike her father, she is okay with letting someone else be right.
