Watch the unsettling trailer for Jessica Jones, Netflix's next big Marvel series
Earlier this year, Marvel broadened its horizons with Daredevil, a Netflix series targeting a much more mature audience than your average superhero fare. Next month, the company is set to double down on that strategy with another Netflix series, Jessica Jones — and they're clearly not afraid to go even bleaker:
Jessica Jones follows the title character (Krysten Ritter), a superhero-turned-detective dealing with severe PTSD after surviving a horrifying ordeal: total mercy at the hands of a supervillain (David Tennant) who can manipulate people into doing whatever he wants. "You have no idea what I've done. What he made me do," says Jessica.
When the villain re-emerges to torment Jessica again, she resolves to stop him once and for all. "God didn't do this. The devil did," says Jessica. "And I'm going to find him."
