Speaking in New York City on Thursday, Hillary Clinton explained that battling ISIS is "a worldwide fight and America must lead it." Clinton detailed a three-part plan for taking down the terrorist group, including defeating ISIS in Syria, Iraq, and across the Middle East, disrupting and dismantling international terrorist networks, and hardening American defenses against homegrown terrorist threats by attacking "virtual" territory and working with Muslim leaders and local law enforcement.
"Our goal is not to deter or contain ISIS, it is to defeat ISIS," Clinton said, stressing that this meant a more effective air campaign as well as an intelligence surge and local ground forces. She also had hard words for American allies in the region: "This is their fight and they need to act like it."
Clinton also directly addressed anti-refugee rhetoric by saying, "We are better than that." "Let's be clear: Islam is not our adversary," Clinton said. "Muslims are peaceful and tolerant people and have nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism."
