Russia gives puppy to France to honor police dog killed in raid

In a sign of solidarity, Russian police on Monday presented the French ambassador to Moscow with Dobrynya, a puppy that will replace a police dog killed during a raid last month.

Jean-Maurice Ripert called it "a gesture that comes from the heart," and says the gift "shows the relations between Russia and France quite well." Diesel, a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, was killed in the aftermath of the November terrorist attacks in Paris during a raid targeting the suspected ringleader, The Associated Press reports. The puppy is named after a knight from Russian folklore.
