No, the Pope didn't take a selfie
A delightful Pope Francis selfie posted to the Vatican's Instagram account this morning had everyone in a state of excitement — but it turns out the selfie isn't actually a selfie, and the account isn't even verified as official by Instagram:
To anyone following Pope Francis' opinions of selfies, this news is likely no surprise, as His Holiness' feelings concerning the phenomenon have always been a little tepid:
Journalist: What do you think of people taking selfies at Mass, which young people and children want to take with you?Pope Francis: What do I think of it? I feel like a grandfather! It's another culture. Today as I was taking leave (from Asuncion), a policeman in his 40's asked me for a selfie! I told him, listen, you're a teenager! It's another culture — I respect it. [The Washington Post]
And so the wait for the great Pope Francis selfie continues. Jeva Lange
