One week after being reported missing, country singer Craig Strickland of the band Backroad Anthem was found dead north of Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Monday. He was 29.

Strickland's body was recovered in Bear Creek Cove on Kaw Lake, Variety reports. He was reported missing on Dec. 27, one day after he went duck hunting with a friend, Chase Morland, during a winter storm. Morland's body and their capsized boat were discovered on Kaw Lake Dec. 28, and rescuers later found Strickland's dog, Sam, alive. Before Strickland and Morland set out on their hunting trip, Morland tweeted: "In case we don't come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma. #IntoTheStorm."

Strickland's wife, Helen Strickland, wrote on Instagram that her husband "fought his way out of the water and up a hill before the stages of hypothermia set in. He experienced no pain in his final moments and simply felt like he was falling asleep." She also thanked fans for their prayers and messages of support.
