2012 Olympic gold medalist Serena Williams ousted in Rio

Serena Williams was defeated Tuesday at the Rio Olympics during the third round of the singles tournament, losing to Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in straight sets. Svitolina is ranked 20th in the world, and beat top-seeded Williams 6-4, 6-3. Williams and her sister, Venus, lost in the first round of doubles play, and Venus Williams was defeated during the first round of the singles tournament. During the 2012 Olympics, Serena Williams won gold in singles and doubles.
