12 hospitalized after fire breaks out at Michigan ski resort

The cause of a fire that sent 12 guests at the Boyne Highlands ski resort in northern Michigan to the hospital is under investigation and viewed as suspicious, the Harbor Springs Fire Chief said Sunday.

The blaze inside the main lodge was reported at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, and forced the evacuation of dozens of people. The resort said the injuries sustained do not appear to be life-threatening, and the flames caused damage to 40 percent of the building, with smoke and water affecting almost all of the lodge. At the time of the fire, there were 113 guests staying in 64 rooms.
