Trump praises Trump Jr. for being 'open, transparent, and innocent' about Russia meeting

While at first hesitant to publicly comment on Donald Trump Jr.'s questionable meeting with a Kremlin-linked source for dirt on Hillary Clinton, President Trump rallied on Twitter on Wednesday to praise his son's appearance on Sean Hannity's show Tuesday night:

Trump also tweeted that his son is "a great person who loves our country" and shared a Fox News post of Jesse Watters claiming "I believe Don Jr. is the victim here."

Trump was reportedly warned not to publicly defend Trump Jr. by his advisers, who at last allowed the president a one-sentence statement on Tuesday, The New York Times reports. The stories about the Russia meeting have put Trump in an unpleasant mood although " [a]dvisers said the president was annoyed not so much by his son as by the headlines."
