Kim Davis denied this gay man a marriage license. Now he's running against her.

Kim Davis just got hit with a big dose of irony.

Davis, you may remember, is the Kentucky county clerk who was so adamant about not granting same-sex couples marriages licenses that she went to jail over it. And she's now running for re-election.

The twist is that David Ermold — a gay man whom Davis denied a marriage license — will challenge her in next year's race. Ermold announced his campaign Wednesday, saying he believes Rowan County's leaders "should put the needs of their constituents first," the Lexington Herald Leader reported.

Ermold has been hinting at a run since early November, The Associated Press reports. He's also spent the last few days tweeting what appears to be a countdown to today's announcement.
