Rep. Dave Brat (R) has lost his re-election bid to Democratic challenger Abigail Spanberger in Virginia's 7th Congressional District, NBC News and Bloomberg project. With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Spanberger led Brat 50.1 percent to 48.7 percent, per The New York Times.

Brat famously upset then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in 2014's GOP primary with a far-right bid and had retained his seat since. This time around, polls showed a tight race for Brat against former CIA officer Spanberger.
