The man who shot former Rex Sox slugger David Ortiz actually mistook him for someone else, authorities now say.
Prosecutors said on Wednesday that Ortiz's friend, Sixto David Fernandez, was the target of the shooting and that the alleged gunman mistook Ortiz for Fernandez, CNN reports. The two were sitting at the same table at the Santo Domingo bar where the shooting took place on June 9.
Authorities say that the mastermind of attempted murder was Victor Hugo Gomez, Fernandez's cousin, and they believe he ordered the hit on him because he suspected that Fernandez in 2011 turned him into law enforcement, CNN also reports. Gomez is not in custody, although 11 suspects have been arrested, including the suspected shooter.

The chief prosecutor pointed to a "badly lit photo taken minutes before the attack" and sent to the gunman as the reason for the supposed mix-up, The Associated Press reports.
Ortiz, who underwent two surgeries following the shooting, is recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital, and NBC News reports he is now in good condition.
