On its website, the Lincoln Project additionally says that while "our many policy differences with national Democrats remain ... electing Democrats who support the Constitution over Republicans who do not is a worthy effort." The group is reviewing scripts for ads that will run in 2020, AP reports.

Conway told AP that he encouraged the group to involve the anonymous Trump administration official behind an infamous New York Times op-ed and recent book. Although the Lincoln Project decided not to do so, Conway says he still hopes this anonymous official comes forward and helps defeat Trump.

"I think the more the merrier," Conway said. "And I hope maybe he — he or she, I don't know who Anonymous is — will come out someday and join the effort. Because everyone who believes as we do that Donald Trump is a cancer on the presidency and on the Constitution needs to help and join this effort."
