1. Obama invites House Republicans to the White House

President Obama is scheduled to hold meetings with House Republicans and Senate Democrats on Thursday to discuss solutions to the government shutdown and the looming threat of a default on some of the nation's debts. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is proposing a short-term hike of the debt limit in exchange for tax reform and cuts to entitlement spending, but without the delay to ObamaCare that Tea Party conservatives are demanding.
