Christina Hendricks: The woman no one can resist
Since gaining fame on TV’s Mad Men, Hendricks has been described as a throwback to Hollywood’s voluptuous beauties of the past.
Christina Hendricks gets hit on wherever she goes, said Laura Brown in Harper’s Bazaar. Since gaining fame on TV’s Mad Men, the 35-year-old actress has been described as a throwback to Hollywood’s voluptuous beauties of the past, from Jayne Mansfield to Marilyn Monroe. She can’t go anywhere without being propositioned, and not just by men. “Women hit on me,” she says with a laugh. As do gay men. “They say, ‘Well, I’m not straight, but if I was …’ I think it’s flattering.”
She’s always been a curvy girl, which became a problem at age 14. “I desperately wanted to be a ballerina. But all of a sudden I started getting boobs. My body wasn’t playing along with my game plan. It got depressing.” She tried modeling, but was told that at size 4, she needed to lose weight. “I remember thinking, ‘You’re crazy!’”
Now that she’s famous, she’s become a heroine of sorts to other curvaceous women, such as the one who recently approached her and said, “You make me feel better about myself.” Hendricks gets choked up at the memory. “I got teary-eyed. I’m just trying to be a good actress. But if this is the sidebar, that is awesome.”
