Good Day, Bad Day

Bargain shopping, lead balloons

GOOD DAY FOR: Bargain shopping, after Amazon unveiled a new service that lets customers order products from their cellphones. The TextBuyIt service finds products by name, description, or UPC or ISBN. This will let shoppers buy through Amazon from inside a brick-and-mortar competitor, if Amazon has a better price. BAD DAY FOR: Lead balloons, after Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire signed into law the nation’s toughest restrictions on chemicals in toys and other products aimed at children. The law sets limits on how much lead, cadmium, and phthalates can be used in children’s products sold in the state. It goes into effect in 2009. (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
