GOOD DAY FOR: Driving north, as the number of people moving to Florida dropped from 268,000 in 2005 to 35,000 in 2007, due mostly to hurricane fears and rising housing and insurance costs. United Van Lines says it now moves as many people out of the state as in. “The word has gotten out about Florida,” said The Miami Herald in a Monday editorial. “It is not the paradise people once thought it was.” (The Washington Post, free registration)
